MAKER+MUSIC+ART

A collaborative project between 4th grade Music and art class in which students created image and sound cones. 4th graders recorded their own compositions with Soundtrap, wrote Scratch code to work in conjunction with a Makey Makey and created imagery inside and outside the cones to accompany it. The viewer experienced the art by standing underneath the cone, activating the music by touching areas of the artwork connected to the Makey Makey.

 GIANT RECYCLED WEAVING

At the beginning of the year, all Kentucky Avenue students collaborated on a giant weaving made out of donated recycled materials: plastic fencing and fabric. The results were amazing!

SECOND GRADE POETRY TUNNEL BOOKS WITH POET MICHELLE GIL-MONTERO

KAS second Graders had the opportunity to learn about and create poetry with local Pittsburgh poet Michelle Gil-Montero. After writing and revising their work they created a tunnel book for their work, writing out their poem and creating imagery to go along with it.

ARTifact

Students in grades 2 - 5 used recycled materials to create “artifacts” from imaginary ancient cultures. For inspiration, we looked at ancient artifacts from around the world, and how they are curated and displayed in museums. Student created stories and other writing about their imaginary societies, as well as maps and illustrations of the beings who lived there.
